Family photo sessions are exciting, and produce beautiful family images that last forever. However, these sessions can also be tough to prepare for. Many of my clients look forward to these sessions around the holidays, but panic when the thought of 'What are we going to wear?' comes up. The decision about what your family will wear in your family photos is important, and preparation on what to wear for this photo session can make or break your photos. DO'S AND DON'TS
- Don’t dress everyone in the same outfit. You do not want the main attraction of your photos to only be what everyone is wearing. You want your photos to focus on you and your lovely family.
- Wear comfortable clothing. If you aren’t comfortable in what you’re wearing it will show in your photos. This does not mean that you can’t dress up. You can definitely dress up your family’s style; just make sure that everyone is comfortable in what they are wearing.
- Layers are your friend during fall and winter months. During the colder seasons, sweaters, blazers, scarfs, and hats photograph very well…. They also keep you warm for outdoor sessions.
- Ladies get your hair and make-up done. (Bring translucent powder and lipstick for touch-ups; and a comb and brush for loose hairs.)
- Men get your hair cut and shave.
- Make sure the kids are groomed. (Chapstick or Vaseline is a good idea to have on hand.)
- Bring extra clothes for the kids… just in case.
- Bring extra clothes for mom and dad… just in case. (Especially for in-door shoots.)
- Relax and act normal! The best thing to wear is a smile, and to be yourself. Everyone can tell when you’re faking a smile in your photos. Lol! So try to relax and act as normal as possible. As your photographer, I have a few tricks that will help with that.)
